Pleat & Press

Pleat & Press is an ongoing collaboration with Galicia based ceramist and engineer  Paula Ojea from OjeaStudio spanning from a shared interest in folding and plain to volume transitions.

In an spontaneous collaborative approach the two artists have brought together their sensitivities and knowledge to explore how textile pleats can transfer into ceramics using plates as the main support. The overlap of the folds imprints the stoneware preserving the three-dimensional quality of the pleats. The outcomes are pairings of soft and hard intricate pleated patterns where the process and three-dimensionality are the main drivers.

This project was first exhibited at Espacio Vilaseco en Os Casares (Chantada, Lugo, Spain) during Novas Artesanías para Novas Ecoloxías (New Crafts for New Ecologies) organised by Artesanía de Galicia.
